Obon Dance Festival

My twin Leisa and I decided to attend the Obon festival dance in Sasebo. Obon is a Japanese Buddhist custom that honors the spirit's of their ancestors. It is a time to reunite with family and return to your family ancestral homes and gravesites. They often celebrate with a dance called Bon-Odori that varies from region to region. It has been celebrated for over 500 years. It was so hot and we were melting, but it was really fun to watch, and Eisley absolutely loved it!
Here's the basics:

Eisley was the cutest little Bon dancer with her fan!

Finally, here's some photos of the festivities!
I loved watching this beautiful, happy family dance!

They had a "well known" musician playing the Furin (windchimes)
Delicious French Macaroons

This weekend as an end to the Obon festivities they will float paper lanterns down the river in Sasebo, so stay tuned for pictures of that!

  2. Eisley loves music and movement as much as reading books. She is lucky to have a mom who loves to learn and one that brings her with everywhere you go.
