Saturday we took a 13 hour long excursion to Tokyo to see as much as we could see. David only had this one weekend off of work before we have to head back to Sasebo next weekend, so we wanted to make it count. I have way too many pictures to put in one post so I'm going to split it up. In the morning we took the train up to Tokyo from Yokosuka. Our first stop was the Tokyo Skytree. Built in 2011 at an impressive 634 meters, it is considered the tallest tower in the world, and the second tallest structure in the world. It was a really foggy/cloudy day, so we didn't get the full panoramic views, but it was still really neat to go up there and see just how high up it is.

Outside skytree these lovely boys were practicing their Kendama skills.
While walking to our next destination we stumbled upon this beautiful shrine. It is called Ushima Shrine and it was built in 860. It is said that you can touch the cow in places you would like health or to be healed. While visiting the shrine we ended up watching a traditional Shinto wedding that just so happened to be taking place. It is a beautiful ceremony that is usually very private. I am thankful the couple allowed us to stick around and take a few pictures. They were married by a female Shinto priest, which is not uncommon in their culture.

I appreciate the pictures of the Japanese wedding, so personal, pure, and private. They reminded me that the ceremony is about the commitment between the couple. And how often we get swamped by wedding details to please other people. Thank you for taking the time to capture and share the culture with us, Ashley. I am especially grateful knowing that most of the time it is just you carrying both camera and Eisley. What a treat to spend the day with David in Tokyo. Have fun!
